First, know that you can only correct your bvn name in the bank and no any other place as long as you in Nigeria.
Again, there are requirements needed from you to correct your bvn name, they include the followings;
- Means of identification like the national ID card, driver’s license, international passport, Nigeria permanent voter’s card, etc.
- A court affidavit in the case of change of name
- A newspaper publication in the case of change of name
Note: You’re to make changes to your bvn in the bank you registered for your bank verification number.
Now let’s proceed on how to correct my BVN name.
1. Error in bvn name arrangement
Requirement for this includes;
- A means of identification recognized in the country and they include the national ID card, international passport, driver’s license and the Nigeria permanent voter’s card
- A bvn amendment form issued by the bank
If there’s a mistake in the name arrangement, that is your name is Johnson Chibuike Adewale. Johnson is your last name which is the surname, Chibuike is your first name while Adewale is your middle.
Then in your bank verification number, it is written Adewale as your last name, Chibuike as your middle name and Johnson as your first name. In this case, there’s a wrong name arrangement and linking your new bank account to your bank verification number won’t go through.
You need to correct the error and it’s so easy and simple.
To answer the question on how to correct my BVN name in this type of name error, you only need to go to the bank with your ID card or any means of identification. Walk to the customer service section and explain that there’s a mistake in your bvn name arrangement.
The bank customer service representative will request for your ID to confirm if the name on your bvn tallies with the name on your ID. If it does match, the customer service representative will go ahead and make the changes.
Mind you, you’ll have to fill a bvn ammendment form in the in order to correct your bvn name. This is the first solution to how to correct my BVN name
Kindly note that it will take a maximum of three weeks for the changes to reflect on your bank verification number.
1. How to correct my BVN name error in name misspelled
Requirements for this includes;
- A means of identification recognized in the country and they include the national ID card, international passport, driver’s license and the Nigeria permanent voter’s card
- A court affidavit
- A bvn amendment form issued by the bank
This is another common mistake in bank verification number. Lots of bank customers do complain of this issue, error in how their name is written or spelt.
How to correct my BVN name in this case?
In this case, your name is Amaechi Uchenna Cynthia and the bank wrote Amachi Uchenna Cynthia on your bvn. The name Amaechi and Amachi are not the same and you need to correct it.
If you’re to link your new bank account to your bvn, it won’t go through cause the two names are not the same.
In order to correct your bvn name for this case, you will have to go to the bank with an ID and a court affidavit to confirm that your name is indeed Amaechi Uchenna Cynthia. With this two requirements the bank will correct your bvn name immediately.
Know that you’ll be issued a bvn amendment form to complete and along with your photocopied ID and court affidavit, the bank will correct the your bvn name. Kindly note that it is the bank that will do the photocopying and not you.
This is the second solution to how to correct my BVN name, and Again it takes a maximum of three weeks to reflect on your bank verification number after the bank must have submitted it to the bvn portal.
3. Name omission on bank verification number
Requirements for this includes;
- A means of identification recognized in the country and they include the national ID card, international passport, driver’s license and the Nigeria permanent voter’s card
- A court affidavit
- A newspaper publication of your name
- A bvn amendment form issued by the bank
This case is rare and can be seen as a change of name. For example, your name is Yusuf ahmed Saluadeen and that is what on your ID or other details.
However, on your bvn it is only written Yusuf ahmed and Saluadeen was omitted. Then you want the bank to add Saluadeen on your bank verification number as it was omitted by the bank.
They will treat it as a change of name even if you present your ID and Saluadeen is written on it or you bank account has the name Saluadeen.
How to correct my BVN name in this case requires you to get a newspaper publication which has Saluadeen, a court affidavit and means of identification.
Some banks might not request for a newspaper publication if the name Saluadeen is included in your bank account, while some will still request for a newspaper publication.
In order to be one hundred percent sure, I will advise you to please contact your bank and ask for the requirements needed to correct a name in terms of name omitted from bvn. Definitely the will give you their requirements needed to makes the changes on your bvn name.
How to correct my BVN name for this case?
Along with the required items needed from you, go to the bank and request to make changes to your bank verification number. You’ll be issued a bvn amendment form, kindly go through it and fill in the necessary information needed from you.
With everything you submitted to the bank matching each other, the bank will do the necessary changes for you. You’ll have to wait for a maximum of three weeks to see the changes on your bvn name.
This is the third and last solution on how to correct my BVN name.
How to change my bvn name online
Honestly this isn’t available yet, even if you’re living abroad. You can’t change your bvn name online, that is very much impossible at this time of writing this post, unless as years goes by they might introduce that.
Right now you can only change your bvn name right inside the bank, and it must be the bank you registered or enrolled for your bvn.
I’ve seen some bank customers who will go to any of their bank to make ammendment to their bank verification number. The bank will tell you ” I’m sorry but you didn’t register your bvn here” go to the bank where you registered your bvn.
As you’re looking for how to correct my BVN name, know that you’ll have to correct the name in the bank you did your bvn enrollment.
How long does it take to change name on BVN?
A maximum of three weeks. If it does exceed the three weeks and no changes occurred on your bvn name, kindly contact your bank immediately.
However, some might take up to a month but it shouldn’t exceed one month unless there’s an error during submission. If it takes too long, please don’t hesitate to contact your bank and inquire from them why is taking long to see the changes reflect in your bvn name.

Can I change my BVN name in any bank?
Absolutely No.
I’m so sorry that is not possible. You can change your bvn name and other details like date of birth in the bank you registered your bvn.
For example, you registered your bvn in zenith bank plc. You can go to any zenith bank around you to change your bvn name though i recommend going to the main branch in your locality.
Many a time banks do refer their customers to the main branch in this type of case. So I recommend going to the main bank branch to make changes to your bvn name and other details.

First, this website isn’t a bank official website or related to a bank.
Secondly, for a bank to retrieve your bvn, you need to give the bank your bank account number. Through your bank account they will retrieve your bvn if there’s a bvn linked to your account.
You have to go back to the bank cause they are the people to retrieve your bvn.

You did bvn for someone in the Cafe?
I’m sorry but that will not bvn cause it is done inside the bank, and you can’t do bvn for someone.

Yesterday is too early, except the changes from Friday to a maximum of three weeks. You should be checking your bvn details to see if the bvn ammendment has reflected.

Once your bvn name is changed, the bank should also change the name on your bank account.
However, if you have multiple bank accounts, you should go to the banks to change your account name after you have successfully changed your bvn name cause the account name must match the bvn name.

Maybe I don’t really understand your question. If you mean to change the name on your bank account and not bvn, you should wait for the changes to reflect on your bvn.

You have to go to bvn validation portal or go through here https://bvnvalidationportal.nibss-plc.com.ng/bvn-validation-portal/
Enter your bvn and tap search, you will pay N25 to check your bvn details which includes your name and date of birth. If you don’t fancy paying the N25, then you have to go to the bank.
Please I want to change my bvn name and date of birth in zenith Bank owerri I want there with the necessary documents for the change of name ,I wanted to change my three names I even provided my weac certificate for them and they telling me that they can not change it that I should provide the owner of the account,and the do printed it shows my face , what can I do now
From what you have said, the bank has already found you very suspicious, and I do believe that you didn’t provide enough valid reason to change the three names linked to your bvn and bank account.
Once the bank found a suspicious activity, they will flag the account.

In this case you will have to provide a court affidavit, newspaper publication, an ID that bears your real name, and the bank might make ammendment to your bvn.
Get these requirements and go to the bank where you did your bvn, and you will also have to correct your bank account name as well.

Why I said “might” is because they bank will ask you the reason for the change of name, and if you come up with that statement you wrote, honestly they will get pissed off and see you as fraud.
They will not trust the documents you will be providing.
So I will advise you to try and give a good reason and never try to say or explain;

They will not attend to you especially if it is first bank Nigeria. So try to find a better explanation and they will attend to you.

I can only advise you and not to come up with a flimsy lie as to why you want to do a change a name.
What I can only advise you is not to mention you hijacked or was an imposter because of a job which you were desperate for then, THE BANK WILL AUTOMATICALLY FIND YOU VERY SUSPICIOUS AND SO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AS WELL.

Late last year,I went to the bank to change the my name on my bvn from my father’s name to that of my husband, There is this loan I applied for years ago,using my father’s name,Last week I went to the microfinance bank,and was told that the name on my application have to match with the one on the bvn.
Can I still go to the bank and change the name back to the one on the application, then later change it back again when am done with the microfinance bank????
You can only change your bvn details once and can’t do it twice. Better still I will advise you to contact you account officer for an assist.
