What is a recurring payment?

A recurring payment is a process by which a merchant or a seller automatically charges a customer for goods or services on a prearranged schedule.

For example, you ordered and paid for services like cable TV subscriptions on the month of April 1, 2021. The subscription which is billed each month will expire on May 1, 2021, but the merchant set it in such a way that immediately it reaches the 1st of May 2021, the customer’s account will be charged.

This is what is called recurring payment.

You can say it is an automatic renewal of goods and services rendered by a merchant to a customer. But in this case, the renewal is set automatically without the consent or the authorization of the customer.

A recurring payment can be annoying if you didn’t plan to renew for a good or service, and the merchant bills you immediately after your previous order has expired.
