First bank online account opening
The answer to the question is YES!!!
It is a hundred percent possible to open a first bank account online.
The account is called First Instant account, and which has a maximum holding balance of N300,000 and can receive N50,000 only per transfer.
To open a new bank account with the first bank online, you need to download the bank mobile app.

The mobile application is called FirstMobile and can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple store.
Having downloaded and installed the FirstMobile application on your smartphone, open the app to get started.
You will be given two options to open an account with First bank, using a bvn or your mobile phone number.
I will suggest that you use your bvn instead of the phone number to open an account with first bank.
So kindly enter your bvn and tap on continue. Your bank verification number profile will display on the screen.
You’ll be asked to verify the bvn details and confirm that the details are yours.
This is followed by entering a five-digit number (pin) and tap on continue.
Having gotten everything correctly, you’ve successfully opened a bank account with first bank.

Note it will take up to five hours or more for the bank to send your account number.
Also, the above process might be updated with time.
I recommend that you use the bank on-screen instruction for first bank online account opening.
Apart from how to open a first bank account online, you can use the bank *894#.
It works similar to using the bank mobile app but doesn’t require an internet connection.
Not to worry if you don’t have a smartphone, you can use a java phone to open your account.
Open a first bank account using *894#
First bank online account opening.
I prefer this to the bank mobile app, the reason is that it doesn’t require an internet connection, and can be done on any type of device that supports sim card and keyboard.
You don’t have a data bundle? No need to worry as this is the best option for you.
So on your mobile phone, dial *894#. You’ll see four options displayed on your screen, and they are:
- Quick banking
- Open an account
- FirstAdvance
- FirstMonie

By mere looking at the screen, you should know that you’ve to select the second option which is open an account, by entering 2.
Next is to select if you want to open your account with or without a bvn. Select the option that suits you.
But I will recommend that you use your bvn to open the account.
Kindly enter your bvn and click continue. Your bvn profile (details) will display on your screen, tap on continue.
Next to do is to enter a five-digit pin number. Simply do that and click on the continue button.
After that, you’ll receive a notification that you’ve successfully opened a bank account with the first bank.
Like opening a bank account using the mobile app, the bank won’t issue your account number immediately.
You have to wait for some hours to receive it on your phone number.
Note the phone number used in opening the first bank account using the *894# automatically becomes your registered phone number with the bank.

If you want to check your account details or transfer money or bills payment using the *894#, it is the phone number used in opening your account.
However, using the first bank *894# to open a bank account offline or the mobile application to open the first bank account online doesn’t end everything, you still have to go to the bank.
Going to the bank to finalize the account opening process.
I know you must be pissed off right now, well it does happen to me.
The first bank will send you a message stating that you can start transacting with the account number, and that’s true.
However, be informed that the account has a maximum holding balance of N300,000 and can receive N50,000 only per transfer.
You may visit any FirstBank branch (with valid means of identification, utility bill not more than 3months old) to upgrade to a normal savings account which has a limit of N1billion.
You can transfer money to the account, but where the issue will arise is when you want to withdraw the cash or use transfer money from the account or use it to pay bills.
It won’t go through at all.
The bank will notify you that you’re eligible for the transaction.
When I saw this, I was a lot confused and pissed off at the same time. I contacted the bank immediately and the customer service representative told me to go to the bank.
The bank needs to have the following details with them:
- The passport
- Means of identification like an ID card
- The electricity bill for address verification
So I went to the bank with these documents and headed over to the customer service section.
Explained everything and gave them the documents.
The requested I apply for a naira debit card same time, which I did and it was given to me the same day.
Everything started working perfectly like transferring money out from the account or using it to pay bills.
So if you did the first bank online account opening using the bank mobile app, you still need to go to the bank to finalize everything.
You can receive money into the account, but can’t transfer money out from the account in spite of using a bin to create the account.
But it will be a lot easier for you, cause it is just to submit the documents and get your debit card the same day.

Note the debit card costs N1000, so you must have cash in your account before applying for it.

I recommend that you do this as it will help you a lot in terms of money transfer or paying off bills.
Even checking your account number, balance, or bank verification number is a lot easier using a thr bank mobile app.
The only limitation is that you must have an internet connection and an internet data bundle
