I will explain to you why such is happening ,and at the end of the day you don’t have to ask why is my emerald card being declined any time I want to use it to make payment online.
This can be very frustrating, and I do really understood everything cause I have been in your shoe before.
I have some of the reasons why your emerald card was declined while trying to use the card for an online payment.
Now let’s jump in.
Why is my emerald card being declined?
Your emerald card was declined because your card was blocked from making any payment online, you have an insufficient funds in your bank account, you account was frozen, the card is invalid or expired, or you have exceeded the card limit.
These are the major reasons you’re asking why is my emerald card being declined.
The most popular among them is the card being blocked from making payments online cause I have seen it happen to lots of people.
Now let me explain them one after the other.
1. The emerald card was blocked from making payment online
Like I said, this is very common and I have seen lots of emerald card users complain about this very issue. The card doesn’t support all online platforms, and there some payment platforms that blocks the emerald card.
Once you tried to make payment using your emerald card, the payment will be declined immediately and even if you try it over and over again.
In this type of situation you have to contact the card customer service representative and lay down your complain. They will let you know if their card supports the platform you’re trying to make payment with.
2. Your emerald card isn’t for online payment
I’ve seen an emerald card user complain about this, she couldn’t make payment with her card and upon calling the customer service representative, she was told her card doesn’t support online payment.
Another reason why your emerald card being declined.
She was really pissed off but there’s nothing she can do other than getting a new emerald card that supports online payment.
Asking why is my emerald card being declined, maybe your emerald card does not support online payment but I advise you to contact the customer service representative to confirm your case.
- Your card was declined by the issuing bank (Explained)
- How often can a creditor levy a bank account
- Can a creditor take all the money in your bank account
3. You have exceeded the emerald card limit
Another major causes of emerald card being declined is having exceeded the daily or monthly limit.
Many a time, card users doesn’t know about the limits imposed on their card, and seeing this type of error message you may think something has gone wrong with your debit card or credit card, and not knowing that you have exceeded the limit.
When a card user exceeds the daily or monthly limit, there’s nothing the person will do other than to wait for the next month or probably use another card in making the payment.
If your daily or monthly card limit is too low and frustrating, you should contact emerald customer service and inquire if it is possible to increase your daily or monthly card limit.
4. There’s a technical issue with emerald
Technical issues can make a card payment to fail and this is very common though does not occur very often.
If your emerald card is being declined after trying several time to use the card for an online payment, I will advise you to hold on and try the next day cause the problem might be from emerald and not your card.
If the next day the problem persist, then you should contact emerald as to know what is causing the problem.
Asking why is my emerald card being declined, I want you to know that technical issues can hinder you from making payment with your debit card or credit card.
5. Your bank account is frozen
A frozen bank account is another reason that prevents a payment from going through, and most times the person will not know until he or she contact the card issuer.
It may be the reason why your emerald card being declined.
As long as a bank account is frozen, all the debit cards or credit cards linked to the account will be frozen as well cause debit transactions will never go through no matter how hard the person try to make the payment.
Someone was trying to make a payment online and it didn’t go through after several tries, the person had to contact the bank and was told his account was frozen because a creditor levied or garnished the account.
In this type of scenario you will never know until you contact your bank.
While trying to make payment online and you saw your emerald card being declined, it may be that your emerald card has been frozen.
This is my own assumption but you need to contact the customer service representative and inquire what is causing the problem.
If you know you have money in your bank account, you have not exceeded the daily or monthly limit, don’t hesitate to contact emerald card customer service representative and lay down your complaint.
6. Emerald card invalid card information
Invalid card information includes the card number, the card cvv and the card name and may cause merald card being declined
This is quite rare cause if the card belong to you, you should know your card information which usually comprises of the card name, card number, expiry date and the cvv.
However, if you keep getting your card was declined by the issuing bank, please try to cross check the emerald card information you entered and be sure they are very much correct and correspond with the information on your emerald debit card or credit card.
7. You have expired emerald card
Another reason you may be having emerald card being declined is because of an expired card.
This usually happens though very rare cause debit card or credit card expiry date is written on the front of the card.
However, you will see some number of persons that will try to use an expired card to make payment online, and to see if it will go through.
They will tell you they have funds in their account so the payment supposed to go through.
If you have a expired debit card or credit card, forget about using the card to make payment or even any debit transaction until you renew your card. No matter how hard you try and even if you have funds, you can never use your card to make a debit transaction.
8. Insufficient Funds
This problem is very common when it comes to online payment issues, and asking why is my emerald card being declined, this might be the reason.
You have an insufficient fund in your bank account.
Another popular reason that may cause your card was declined by the issuing bank while you’re trying to make payment using your debit card or credit card.
Insufficient funds doesn’t necessarily mean having $0.00 in your bank account, but rather the money in your account is not sufficient enough to make the payment.
You shouldn’t be surprised about this statement, let me explain a bit more about it cause you might think you have a sufficient funds in your account while in the real sense you don’t.
For example, you want to make a payment of $1399 and the money in your bank account is $1401.
As you wanted to make the payment you didn’t know about the payment charges which is $2 depending on your financial institution. There’s no way the payment will go through because there’s no money in your bank account for the payment charges.
$0.01 can make your payment become insufficient and it has happened to me which I was indeed surprised cause I couldn’t believe $0.01 will make my payment to be insufficient.
So if you want to make a payment of $1399, try to find your bank account with at least $1450 to be on the safer side.
Once your account is in good standing and you have funds in your account, there’s no way you will experience the payment error of your card was declined by the issuing bank, unless you bank or card issuer blocked the transaction from going through.
