Question of the day, will a direct deposit reopen a closed account. For the past few days I have been discussing on closed bank account, and how possible a person can reopen a closed bank account.
Sometimes we do regret closing our account and would want to do so. I’ve been getting a couple of requests on what happens if a deposit was made to a closed bank account.
I’ve already discussed that on my previous posts, so now is the question and it is still based on closed bank account.
Will a direct deposit reopen a closed account?
I have couple of questions that so much relate to this very main topic of this article, and they are;
- What happens when a direct deposit goes to a closed account
- Can money still be deposited into a closed account
- How long can a bank hold a direct deposit if the account is closed
- What happens when a social security direct deposit goes to a closed account
Will a direct deposit reopen a closed account
Mostly no, a direct deposit won’t reopen a closed account. In many banks, if a direct deposit is made to a closed bank account, the money will bounce back or reversed back to the sender’s account.
This is most likely to happen, bank reversing the money back to the sender’s bank account.
Then in some rare cases, and if it is the bank policy, the bank might decide to reopen the customer’s bank account if especially the customer recently closed it’s bank account.
That is to say that details or personal data of the customer is still with the bank, they will reopen the closed account. In some banks which has a policy to reopen a customer’s account through direct deposit stores all the personal data of their customer’s closed account.
I’ve seen one or two persons who claimed that their bank reopened their closed account, after a direct deposit was sent to their closed bank account.
According to them, the bank reopened the account, received the money into the bank account before informing them about it. They didn’t request for their account to be reopened, and it was reopened without their consent.
In this type of situation, you can withdraw the money and close the account for the second time. You can also chose to start using the account if you see the need to do so.
In this type of situation, to answer the question on will a direct deposit reopen a closed account, the answer is yes, and if it is within the policy of the bank to reopen a customer’s closes account through direct deposit.
The answer to this very question is absolutely yes, but not all banks can do this, as many banks will reverse the money.
- How do you know if your bank account is closed
- Can a closed bank account be charged
- If your bank account is frozen can you withdraw money
Going back to the question will a direct deposit reopen a closed account, generally the bank will bounce back the money back to sender’s account, and in some cases will reopen the closed account and receive the money into the account.
Can money still be deposited into a closed account
Why would you want to deposit money into a closed account in the first place?
To answer the question on can money still be deposited into a closed account?
Money can’t be deposited into a closed account. In most cases the money will definitely bounce back to the bank account used in sending the money. This is what many banks will definitely do, reverse the money back to where it come from.
In a very rare cases which I have seen two persons claiming it happened to them, the bank reopened their closed account.
If money is deposited into a closed account, definitely the bank will bounce it back to the account used in sending the money.
So don’t bother to try and deposit money into a closed bank account, and if someone mistakenly deposited money into your closed account, you need not to worry, the bank will bounce the money back.
How long can a bank hold a direct deposit if the account is closed
A bank will hold a direct deposit for a maximum of seven days before reversing the money back to sender’s account. That is to say that money sent to a closed bank account will bounce back within one to seven days at maximum.
In some some cases and due to a technical issue, it can take up to two weeks to bounce the money back to sender’s account.
In my own case, a friend of mine sent money to my old bank account which I closed few years ago. The money was reversed back to his account after three days of sending the money.
What happens when a direct deposit goes to a closed account
Bank will never take the money, and nothing will happen to the money sent to the closed account.
When money is sent to a closed account, the money will bounce back to the account used in sending the money. Like I said, you don’t need to be afraid that you will lose the money since you sent it to a closed account.
Definitely you will receive the money back your account. Cases like this do happen when money is transferred using the direct deposit method, this shouldn’t make you to panic.
I’ve been in this situation before, and the money was reversed back to my friend’s account. He afterwards transferred the money to my new bank account.
All these questions are the same with the main topic of the post, will a direct deposit reopen a closed account. Mostly the money sent to a closed account will be reversed unless the bank wants to reopen the account and receive the money into the account.
POINT TO NOTE In a case whereby a customer overdrawn his or her account, that is you owe bank some amount of money, bank may decide to take the money you owed them prior to closing your account.
Can a direct deposit go into a closed account
Of course direct deposit can go into a closed account though it is most likely to be reversed or bounced back to the account used in sending the money.
This is quite different if the person is depositing the money through deposit slip or cheque, right there you will be informed that the bank account is closed. However, for direct deposit, you as a sender wouldn’t know unless the recipient informs you.
As I mentioned that in some bank policy, direct deposit can reopen a closed account, money will be received in the account. The bank will inform the customer about the account reopening, and also the money transfer.
This is the same with the question will a direct deposit reopen a closed account. It some cases it does, and it most cases it doesn’t unless you open a new account with the bank.
